Description Cited for the first time in a document from 1228 as a county controlled by the Signori of Tyrol, today Ortisei is the regional capital of the Gardena Valley and one of the most important tourist resorts in the Dolomites. It is spread out in the valley basin, surrounded by the imposing masses of Sasso Lungo, Rasciesa, Odle and Sasso Piatto. The ski area of Ortisei is provided with many lift facilities, some situated near the town, others around Seceda and Siusi.
