Who we are:
We are a small business in Portland, Oregon. We started off when my husband and I first met. We actually started our business after only knowing each other about a month. We started very small with barely enough wax to for ten candles and only a few molds.
At first, Sam tested his candle making abilities trying all sorts of different candles with scents mixed in a hap hazzard way. Our first weekend at the Portland Saturday Market was a mess. We made $78.00 for the whole weekend which didn't even cover suppllies and the price of the market and thought "how cool is this? People paying us for our candles!" And so we pushed on.
Then after about a month I figured out that we really needed to stabilize our product line. Others, might tell you it was their idea but I know it was mine, and I'm writing this right? So I hounded Sam over and over again to make them just like I liked them but in different colors that matched the scents. We needed to be able to reproduce these the same way each time or at least close. They had to burn well and last a long time. They needed to have the scent through out the burn and be beautiful when lit. We tested and tested the wicks, the wax and the time it took to burn. Consistancy finally happened and we started our line out with about 15 scents or scent combinations. It ended up being the key to getting the business into profit.
