The Oak Park Public Library was established as a public lending library in 1902. Today the library serves over 53,000 residents with three locations in Oak Park, Illinois.
The 4.5 square mile community of Oak Park is located eight miles west of downtown Chicago and is nationally recognized for its commitment to diversity and its outstanding architecture.
The Oak Park Public Library's collection includes fiction and nonfiction titles, movies, CDs, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers, reference materials, and local history information.
Oak Park residents can apply for a free library card to check out items and use library services. Many services are free of charge and available to those without Oak Park Public Library cards.
The Library hosts a number of events from book discussions, to storytimes for children, to a coffeehouse for teens. The Art Gallery at the Main Library presents the work of local artists each month. Art by over 15 artists is on permanent display throughout the Main Library.
