It was the last quarter of last financial year and things weren't looking good. Our reward and recognition program is heavily based on meeting company sales targets and our critical number (DIFFOT - Delivered In Full, Fresh and On Time). DIFFOT was tracking ok but we were way off our sales targets.
Enter Operation Bonus .... it was simple - if we hit budget, we get our bonus. So each individual in the sales, quality and supply chain teams put a picture on the wall of what we would spend our bonus on if we achieved it ….. right where we have our daily huddles.
It was great! There were pictures of holidays, houses, cars … even a bass guitar ….. as well as our sales targets. It was incredibly motivating. We exceeded our targets by about 2% !!! A close call but we achieved it none the less.
