Established in 1998 and based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Operation Rainbow Canada is a registered non-profit organization which organizes, funds and oversees an international medical service program. Volunteer medical teams comprised of health care professionals and non-medical personnel travel to developing countries to provide free reconstructive surgery on children with cleft lip and palate deformities and (burn) scar deformities.
who once were shunned and ostracized, to become contributing members of society. Many of these children were unable to speak, walk/move or eat properly because of their deformities.
The children and their families travel for miles and often camp outside the hospital where the volunteer medical team is based in the hope that their child will be selected for surgery and thereby given the opportunity for a new life.
