Opera Volunteers International
Description
Opera Volunteers International (OVI) is a not-for-profit association of over one hundred opera guilds and other opera volunteer organizations, as well as opera volunteer coordinators who work for opera companies, and hundreds of individual members. They come from throughout the United States and Canada, with a few members in Europe and Australia as well.
Opera Volunteers International was the brainchild of Elizabeth Autry of the Seattle Opera Guild, who organized the first meeting of North American opera volunteers in 1972. Officially chartered in 1974 at a conference in Toronto, the organization is dedicated to the creation of new opera volunteer organizations, and to helping opera volunteers, opera company volunteer coordinators and opera volunteer support groups improve their effectiveness in working on behalf of the opera companies and communities which they serve.
