Description
Opera Fringe was established in 2002 by Down District Council, with support from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. The festival runs alongside the annual Castleward Opera season each June, which takes place at the National Trust property in Castle Ward, just 7 miles from Down Arts Centre - the home of Opera Fringe.
The festival offers a contrasting and complimentary programme to the main-scale productions presented by Castleward, creating a platform rather for small-scale opera productions and touring companies as well as a range of opera and opera-related performers and performances from Ireland, the UK and beyond. Together, Castleward Opera, and the Fringe, offer an ideal opportunity for music and theatre lovers to take some time out and spend a weekend enjoying top quality performances, in a beautiful location, during mid-summer.
