The Lotus Eye Hospital was established 25 years ago by Mr.Manu Subedar a well know economist of India. The Hospital today has busy out patient department of about 300 patients everyday. The unit is a self sufficient one with all diagnostic procedures, operation theater and an inpatient department. 40 ophthalmologists of different specialties visit the hospital.
Facilities : The Lotus College of Optometry (formerly H.H.K) occupies the third floor of the hospital covering 3000sq feet. Currently it has four batches of students spread over all the four years. It has an excellent team of visiting faculty, to impart lectures on the various subjects. The college sports a beautiful library with a large collection of books, journals, CD-Roms and videotapes. It also has a well-equipped optics laboratory, and other lab facilities include anatomy and physiology laboratories. The demonstration clinics, utilized to train students on clinical skills are equipped with state of art instruments for refractions, contact lenses, low vision devices and orthoptics.
World Council of Optometry (WCO) is a nonprofit, worldwide organization. According to WCO, optometry is a healthcare profession that is autonomous, educated and regulated. Optometrists are primary health care practitioners who provide comprehensive eye and vision care, which includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnosis and management of disease of the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system.
