Traveling west back over the bridge, the next community is Apalachicola, which was once one of the three busiest seaports in Florida. This historic community abounds with historic homes, churches, buildings, wonderful shops, restaurants and a charming riverfront dedicated to the seafood industry. The town is also culturally appealing as the Dixie Theatre offers live plays and musicals on a regular basis
The Apalachicola Bay produces a large percentage of the oysters harvested in Florida. Oyster bars cover approximately 10,600 acres of the submerged bottom within the Apalachicola Natural Estuarine Research Reserve
