- Originally from Tacoma, Washington, I’ve lived and worked in Texas, Mississippi, New Hampshire, and Kentucky. After completing a sixteen month contract in Iraq, I arrived in Odessa in early November, 2005. Ukraine, Odessa specifically – made my short list of places to live by virtue of location and features. Strategically situated between Western Europe, Russia and the Middle East, Odessa offers a comparable standard of living for less. Odessa is relatively safe, possesses reasonably good infrastructure and feels like a cross between small-town New England (Portsmouth) and pre-Katrina New Orleans.
