Trillium Octave Mandolins
Description
A bit about us...
Trillium offers over 20 years of experience in building instruments of the cittern-bouzouki family. The current design of octave mandolin, arrived at after considerable experimentation, seems well suited to a variety of styles and tuning. They have a strong, ringing sustain and intonation that is accurate and clear up and down the neck.
Robert Abrams has spent (some might say "frittered away") his life building and playing musical instruments. Apprenticed to a banjo maker while still a teenager, he now builds mandolins and octave mandolins at his shop in Nottingham, New Hampshire. He plays a variety of instruments, including button accordion, mandolin, guitar and banjo. He has appeared in night clubs and pubs, coffee houses, churches and colleges, cider pressings and square dances and has performed at festivals throughout the country, from Fox Hollow to the San Diego Folk Festival. He was the host of the radio show In the Tradition for two-and-a-half years on KWMU FM in St. Louis, Missouri, and presented over 600 school programs as an ensemble leader for the Young Audiences organization.
"I started experimenting with octave mandolins in the 1970's because I wanted one to play myself. I built some with long necks, short necks, 8 strings, 10 strings, carved tops, flat tops and all sorts of woods. I have settled on a size and scale length that is comfortable to play but retains enough power for sessions and ensemble use. We are proud to be able to offer what we feel is the finest hand-made octave mandolin available!"
