~ Our History ~
Oakland County Sportsmen's Club was founded in 1943 on 237 acres of land bordering Waterford Road in Independence Township, Michigan, as a private non-profit organization. The Oakland County Sportsmen's Club membership is comprised of 1500 General members, 150 Life members and 209 Senior members, all of which enjoy the family-oriented outdoor activities that O.C.S.C. offers. Our organization promotes hunting, fishing and any other outdoor recreational activity while simultaneously encouraging hunter's safety, conservation of resources, and a spirit of friendly competition. The club's facilities regularly provide members and guests with the opportunity for both indoor and outdoor archery and pistol ranges, 50 & 100 yard rifle range, muzzle loading, skeet, trap, and sporting clay shotgun ranges, and quarter midget racing and WHRRI road racing. For over 50 years, the Oakland County Sportsmen's Club has encouraged family participation in sporting activities through many avenues. The club has sponsored several Boys Scout Troops, has initiated programs for educating youth in such areas as firearm safety and sportsmanship, and has provided support with programs like the Junior Olympic Program for Archery, Rifle and Shotgun youths. By serving as a positive resource within Oakland County for over fifty years, the sportsmen's club has helped to educate and entertain the community and has preserved a bit of Michigan's heritage as a state rich in natural resources and outdoor traditions.
