The Historical Society of Ocean Grove

Description

The Historical Society of Ocean Grove is dedicated to education and the preservation and conservation of the History of Ocean Grove, NJ, the Holiness Movement of the 19th Century, Methodism, the Camp Meeting Movement and of 19th Century and early 20th Century life, as well as the social aspects of the time. The HSOG relies on private funding and corporate donations as well as grants funding thorough various historical agencies and corporate and private trust funds to accomplish its goals. The New Jersey Historical Commission has awarded to the Historical Society of Ocean Grove a General Operating Support grant. For the year's 2000-2003 & 2005, a grant of $10,000 is specifically dedicated to the salary of our Historical Society's employee. The Commission awarded a second grant to the Historical Society in the amount of $7,000 in 2002 for the planning of an exhibit project on the historical perspectives on Ocean Grove relative to the Camp Meeting movement.

The Historical Society of ocean grove has as its mission to elucidate history, with special reference to that of ocean grove, New Jersey. The organization, in its by-laws, has further elaborated on that mission by stating that it was organized for the purpose of preserving and restoring the Victorian heritage of Ocean Grove, maintaining and promoting the beneficial aspects of the present environment, and assisting the ocean grove Camp Meeting Association and the local municipal government (the Township of Neptune) in planning for future development of Ocean Grove in harmony with its past.
