Title

The OBSERVER, Dunkirk, New York

Description

The OBSERVER is a community newspaper located in Dunkirk, N.Y. with a long tradition of bringing the best local news coverage to our readers in the Northern Chautauqua County region.

The first issue was published December 4, 1882 by founding publisher Dr. Julien T. Williams. Since then, the newspaper has been a leader in breaking major local stories from the explosion at a heating plant in Fredonia in 1910 to Dunkirk City Hall burning in 1924 to the announcement of the $47 million Niagara Mohawk Power Plant project in 1950.

The newspaper has gone through several production changes throughout its history and has consistently taken advantage of the most current technology available. The OBSERVER had one of the first offset web presses in use between New York City and Chicago and was also one of the first newspapers to use VDTs (video display terminals) starting in August 1975.
