Description

ABOUT OUR CLUB

The Northern Virginia Relic Hunters Association (NVRHA), (a non profit organization), was organized to promote the study and preservation of American history through the location, identification and preservation of military and related historical artifacts. Further, as stated in the charter, "the defined purpose of the organization neither encourages nor supports the procurement of artifacts from public parks or private property where permission for such procurement has not been granted." From its first meeting, convened in March of 1972 at Centreville, Virginia with 32 members, the NVRHA has grown to include over 250 members in its ranks. We are the oldest metal detecting club in the country. The primary scope of the organization has broadened since its inception. Each April, the NVRHA sponsors an annual Civil War Memorabilia and Relic Show. Advertised nationally, the 450 plus table show draws many fine exhibits from both the individuals and the country's most distinguish- ed museums. See "OUR YEARLY NATIONAL RELIC SHOW" in the index. We can also boast to having members in our ranks that have published numerous books on the identity of Civil War artifacts. These books are being used daily for reference by students, professors, historians and archaeologists. See "BOOKS PUBLISHED BY OUR MEMBERS" in the index. On other fronts, the NVRHA has supported various causes whose ultimate aim has been the preservation of threatened historical sites. Included in our donations are museums, forts, battlefields, park caretakers and other organizations that are preseving our national heritage. At its monthy meetings, the NVRHA membership is addressed by noted experts in the field of Civil War equipment and memorabilia, relics and local history, and authors of new books on the subject. See "ABOUT OUR MEETINGS" in the index. Preeminent in its field, the NVRHA looks forward to many future years of preserving the legacy of this most turbulent period in our nations history, The War Between the States.

Additional Information

Community Review

The NVRHA is also involved with the Ebay Fakes Forum that has recently been transfered to the American Relic Hunters website. The moderator of this forum is also the Membership Director for the NRA. This forum is used as a means of brow-beating Ebay members who they believe have questionable items listed. The moderator of the forum is one of the biggest offenders of the rules for the Ebay Fakes Forum. He allows Ebay members full address's to be posted on the site along with defameing comments that are rude and offensive. He also allows multiple member profiles by the same person that are then used to argue points when in fact it is the same member doing the argueing. Even though the owner of the site has issued many warnings against these activities they still continue today. The site has recently lost many viewers because of these issues.
