National Student News Service
Description
What We Do: The mission of the National Student News Service is to promote high quality coverage of student news locally and nationally. We provide a news source for college journalists that focuses on events and opinions affecting and affected by students. Through the distribution of our newswire, we seek to encourage student journalists to focus their news coverage on the student population they serve.
How We Do It: The National Student News Service produces a newswire containing events, features, and opinion. The newswire is available free of charge on the World Wide Web. The newswire includes both national news that affects all students and local campus events that are of interest to students nationwide.
Why We Do It: In a functioning democracy, the media should serve as the eyes, ears, and voice of citizens at large. For students, this means that their campus media outlets should focus coverage on the population they serve: students. The National Student News Service encourages college journalists to make their coverage relevant and valuable to students all over the country and on their own campuses. By disseminating more news of what is happening to students, and more importantly, what they are doing and saying about it, we are able to foster more involvement by students in issues that impact their lives. Therefore, we focus our coverage specifically on student-organized events and student-centered political action, as well as larger national issues that affect students everywhere.
