Title
Free Clinic of the New River Valley
Description
The Mission of the Free Clinic is to provide high quality primary and specialty health care to people in the New River Valley who are uninsured, and who otherwise cannot afford access to health care.
Since its inception in 1981, the Free Clinic has been a leader in developing healthcare partnerships that enable the delivery of comprehensive care to our patients.
The culmination of this process occurred in 1996 with the merger of the Program for Special Medical Care ( a “clinic without walls”), and the Free Clinic of the New River Valley. The Program for Special Medical Care is predicated on the belief that the doctor-patient relationship set in a private practice provides both the most desirable environment for treatment, as well as an efficient delivery of care. By providing treatment in physicians' offices, Clinic overhead costs can be better controlled; physicians can volunteer with their own staff and at the times most convenient for them; and most importantly, the patient receive a greater degree of continuity of care.
