Title

Re-Elect Eleanor Holmes Norton for Congress

Description

Eleanor Holmes Norton has devoted her life to fighting for justice on the major issues of her time, just as she fights for the District today. A forceful national advocate for justice and fairness for all, she was named by President Jimmy Carter as the first woman to chair the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and, before that, the first woman to chair the New York Commission on Human Rights.

By the time she was elected to Congress in 1990, Eleanor was recognized nationwide as an accomplished civil rights and feminist leader, a tenured professor of law, and board member of three Fortune 500 companies. Eleanor was a Co-Founder of the South Africa Divestment Movement the National Women's Political Caucus, and the National Congress of Black Women.

In her years of service in the House, Eleanor has fought for statehood, congressional voting representation and full democracy for the people of the District of Columbia. She simultaneously has brought home many new educational and economic opportunities to District residents. Since the attacks of 9/11, she has become the primary leader in keeping Washington open and accessible.
