Sweden has a long tradition to weave and we are proud to present the absolute best Swedish master weavers with traditions dating back to 1692 ! In the beginning of the 1990s a completely new weaving technique was discovered by Ekelund. The breakthrough of this magnitude was last made about 1000 years back in time ! This breakthrough makes it possible for Ekelund to weave with every colour in the rainbow with great detail. A huge selection of these fantastic Swedish tablecloth, towels, placemats and blankets can be found here at Nordic Design.

Four generations of Ekelund. But the story of Ekelund started with a lawsuit. The family ancestor Ingemar Larsson (1660-1740) lent money to his neighbour but when the neighbour culd not repay he was given textiles instead. Ingemar sold the textiles and with this act he violated the Swedish law and was sentenced to pay a fine and was banned to trade unless he made the textiles himself.

Ingemar managed to create his empire and when his daughter Marta was born in 1692, Ingemar was running a considerable textile buissness. Since then the bussness have staid within the Ekelund family. Generation after generation passing down the fine art of weaving fantastic textiles. Today the Ekelund bussness is a truly well established company with modern technique and represented all around the world.
