Title
NOIR CITY 4 Film Noir Festival - Film Noir Foundation
Description
The Film Noir Foundation is a non-profit public benefit corporation created as an educational resource regarding the cultural, historical, and artistic significance of film noir as an original American cinematic movement. It is the mission of the Foundation to find and preserve films in danger of being lost or irreparably damaged, and to ensure that high quality prints of these classic films remain in circulation for theatrical exhibition to future generations.
Even as the high-tech revolution lets us own vast film libraries on DVD, the risk grows greater all the time that 35mm prints of these films will fall into disuse and eventually disintegrate—especially lesser-known titles that have slipped through the cultural cracks, but are worthy of rediscovery.
There have been many times when we've booked a film for the NOIR CITY festival, only to discover that the "circulation" print has been lost or has disintegrated. There is a way to stop this from happening again and again. As is usually the case, it involves money. As a focal point of the film noir renaissance, the Foundation is in a position to serve as a conduit between the studios and repertory cinemas still interested in screening these films in 35mm. Proceeds generated by ticket sales will encourage studios and film archives to strike new prints of films that are at risk of disappearing from public view, either through neglect or scarcity.
