- Nosara is located on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, about halfway down the Nicoya Peninsula. The area, which actually includes three beaches, is known collectively as Beaches of Nosara. Farthest to the North is Playa Nosara, an isolated black sand beach where turtles come to lay eggs. This beach is backed by a large estuary that makes for great kayaking and bird-watching. The next beach south is Playa Pelada. This picturesque beach is surrounded by jungle and wildlife, and home to several restaurants and a few hotels. Pleada is a great place to look for shells, check out the tide-pools, and enjoy some peace and quiet. A short walk from Pelada is Playa Guiones. Guiones is the most developed area in Nosara, and the spot to go for great surfing. Numerous restaurants can be found here, as well as some small shops and a bank (no ATM at this time). The town of Nosara, a few miles inland, has a small airport and some fantastic inexspensive restaurants.
