What is Aikido? Aikido is a nonviolent, self-defensive martial art that teaches you how to protect yourself by using an attacker's force, size and strength against themselves. Aikido training involves both physical and mental conditioning. Physically, Aikido practice increases one's strength, stamina, balance, flexibility, coordination, and resilience. Aikido's mental conditioning increases one's self-confidence, concentration, alertness, intuitiveness, & general concern for others. Aikido teaches practitioners how to reduce stress, avoid confrontations, and stay calm during every type of adversity common in our daily lives. In learning Aikido, you will become secure in knowing how to protect yourself and others with proven and traditional martial art techniques.
O Sensei (Great Teacher), was born in 1883 in the village of Tanabe, Japan. As a young boy, O Sensei studied various martial arts including jujitsu (unarmed combat), kenjitsu (sword fighting), and sojitus (spear fighting) becoming one of the most recognized martial artists of his day.
