...and has gone from strength to strength over the many years of its development. The founder, Charles Stearn (seen right), formed the Stearn Electric Lamp Company in 1907. At the time the company manufactured electric light bulbs at Kew. Prior to that, Stearn was associated with Swan and the development of the first bulb demonstrated in 1878. Stearn also developed the process for spinning viscose thread into artificial silk.
