Description

Newtimber Parish

Newtimber is a small scattered village seven miles north of Brighton. There are no shops or pubs, there is only a church. The village is situated in the South Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is divided by the A23, the London - Brighton main road.

Included in the Parish is the hamlet of Saddlescombe, which is owned by the National Trust. There is a 17th Century wheel house with donkey wheel and the 16th Century Manor Farm building. There is also an early Iron Age trackway to the Downs. It should be pointed out that this is a working farm. Please do not park at the farm. There is a car park at Summerdown, (take the road to the Devils Dyke) from which you can join and follow the South Downs Way, which crosses the Saddlescombe road.
