- This all started simply enough. A few of us had arrived in Hanoi at about the same time and had had similar experiences. We spent a couple weeks getting our word-of-mouth introduction to town and occasionally making forays onto the web to see where that might lead us. Typically, it led us straight back to the bars where those-in-the-know could give us some real leads instead of dated misinformation. Sure, their advice was limited to the path they'd beaten through town, but at least it was something. The web sites we visited seemed full of three-year-old job posts, restaurants and clubs that didn't exist any longer, and bars that had changed ownership so many times they were hardly recognizable. We gave up on them shortly.
