St. Patrick's Day Festivities - New London, Wisconsin USA

Description

The legendary St. Patrick’s Day festivities begin each March when leprechauns of The Shamrock Club of New Dublin rename the city of New London, Wisconsin to ‘New Dublin’ for the week.

A Grand Parade is held each year. The parade is the largest Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Wisconsin with a variety of entries that include marching & bagpipe bands, and clan & business floats. There are over 100 units. It is estimated that more than ten thousand people converge upon downtown 'New Dublin' to experience it.

Irish Fest is held under a huge heated big-top tent and features two Celtic bands along with Irish food, beverages, and market booths. Over two thousand attend this festivity.

Many weekday activities and events precede Saturday's Irish Fest and parade. Corn beef and cabbage is served throughout the week at local restaurants and there are evenings that include Irish Caroling, local Irish Entertainment, an Irish Wake, and Irish Ceili. The Irish wake is a parody on an Irish funeral, and the Irish Ceili (pronounced kay-lee) is an Irish dance social for family and friends.

The St. Patrick's Day festivities are sponsored by the Shamrock Club of New Dublin with the help of many fine businesses and individuals from New London and the surrounding area. The club's purpose is to bring together individuals of Irish descent or relationship (or those that wish they were) for the purpose of celebrating being Irish.
