Nettwerk Songs Publishing 'morphed' out of Nettwerk Music Publishing, which in turn had 'morphed' out of Nettoverboard Publising and NTWK Songs. The latter two companies were born the same year Nettwerk Productions was founded in 1984.
Initially we began the publishing company to manage the copyrights of many of the artists signed to our label, Nettwerk Productions. This included such artists as Sarah McLachlan, Moev, Single Gun Theory, Skinny Puppy, Mc900 Ft. Jesus and Manufacture among many others.
One of our primary incentives in publishing these artists was to sub-publish their works with strong, predominately independent sub-publishers. In doing this we gained partners who would help Nettwerk liaise with the foreign labels releasing our published artists. These publishing partners would promote our artist/writers works, and in general tell us where our strong areas lie in terms of focused marketing and promotion. If there were weak areas, we would work with our sub-publishers in how we may best remedy them. For a small independent company from Vancouver this was an invaluable resource.
