We formed Netec at a time when big companies were cutting costs, which often meant getting rid of their IT people. But it was also a time when companies realised that to be a credible business in the 21st century, you had to be connected to the internet.
Of course, new technology meant new problems. All the big IT companies offered computer support, but often this was expensive, inflexible and impersonal. The only other option was to go with a one man band. Cheaper for sure, and you knew who they were. But not so good when your network shuts down and your one man band is on holiday.
We started by offering conventional PC support in London as well as upgrading and installing software – the kind of technical work that only IT professionals can do. But as our business grew, we were often asked to deal with more everyday aspects of IT, like buying a new computer. We realised our clients didn’t like having to deal with the same issues all the time, and even if could do it themselves, they wanted us to take on the responsibility.
