NetRead was founded in 1999 by Pete Alcorn, a publishing industry veteran, and Kent Lindstrom, a Senior Manager in Deloitte & Touche's consulting division. NetRead's goal is to exploit the latest web-based software to tap the tremendous potential for addressing problems in publishing. NetRead has quickly become a leader in innovative marketing tools, such as the EventCaster and JacketCaster. NetRead's revenue is based on sales of the JacketCaster catalog distribution service, which will soon be extended to other industries.
JacketCaster is a web-based system that allows publishers and distributors to take control of their catalog and how it appears in the market. With JacketCaster, publishers and distributors can keep all their partners up to date, including electronic retailers, wholesalers, and catalog publishers, as well as reps, buyers, and reviewers. JacketCaster is the first commercial product to help publishers make their book data ONIX-compliant, so it gives unprecedented capacity for adding rich catalog information, such as images, audio clips, and other new forms of metadata. In addition, JacketCaster helps publishers market books more efficiently using features such as individual web pages for books and email direct marketing. To help publishers transition to this new form of infrastructure, NetRead has developed relationships with key industry channels like Amazon and Ingram.
