National Museum Directors' Conference: Home Page
Description
The Directors meet regularly to determine priority areas for action. These priorities are then taken forward by sub-committees chaired by a Director. NMDC's current activities include research and analysis of the relationship between national museums and the wider museums sector in the UK, and two projects with the London School of Economics aimed at articulating the social and economic contribution of museums and highlighting the role of museums in inspiring creativity and innovation. More information about these activities can be found here.
• To play a key role in the development of the work of its members and their contribution to society and the economy
The NMDC is funded by the membership institutions, which pay a fee proportionate to the total staff cost of each museum. The directors of these institutions give their time voluntarily to the organisation. The Chairman and the Executive Committee are elected on a three-year basis by the membership. The current chairman is Robert Crawford, Director General of the Imperial War Museum. There is a secretariat with three staff that handles the day-to-day business.
