Description
The VIA Foundation is a Czech charitable organization which provides small grants, and expertise to non-profit community initiatives in the Czech Republic. Where 50 years of totalitarian government dampened people's initiative, the VIA Foundation is now supporting peoples' efforts to improve their communities through a variety of programs and activities.
The history of VIA begins soon after the Velvet Revolution. In 1990, Wendy W. Luers, wife of the former US Ambassador to Czechoslovakia, founded the Foundation for a Civil Society (FCS) in order to help launch a charitable sector in Czechoslovakia.
The Foundation for a Civil Society - a tax exempt 501 (c) 3 charitable organizaton - serves as VIA's fiscal agent in the United States.
