Title
Myrna Bloom The East-West Room: Oriental Rug & Textile Books
Description
In 1969, professional painter and sculptor Myrna Bloom and her then husband Joseph became Oriental Rug lovers after acquiring their first "collector's" rug - a Caucasian Shirvan full of animals - traded for one of Myrna's paintings. Convinced that the best way to learn about their new passion was to see, handle and read about rugs, they set about owning every rug book ever published, sometimes spending more for a single book than they had on any one rug.
At the end of 1980 Myrna turned avid collecting into a livelihood, naming her business for her painting The EAST-WEST ROOM. Her knowledge and continuous quest for the best and most comprehensive selection of literature has built her reputation as "Bookseller To The World of Oriental Rugs." Myrna is known to have the largest selection of books, periodicals, exhibition and auction catalogs in the U.S. on Oriental Rugs and Textiles, plus a large inventory on textiles of all kinds from all parts of the world, on related Near and Far Eastern Arts, history, exploration and studies of the people and their land, and on Ethnographic Arts from the Americas, Africa, Indonesia, etc.
Myrna is a member of The International Conference on Oriental Carpets Association, The Textile Museum, The Philadelphia and San Francisco Bay Area Rug Societies.
