Description
The mission of Muskegon Pregnancy Services is to help families in crisis pregnancies and strive to prevent crisis pregnancies from occurring while sharing the hope and love of Jesus Christ. Muskegon Pregnancy Services (MPS) is a non-political, non-profit interdenominational Christian ministry funded by local churches and individuals and dedicated to supporting women in crisis emotionally, spiritually, and materially. The original steering committee was led by local Christian physicians who worked to incorporate the organization in 1985. As of 1996, MPS has been serving over 1000 women annually.
The Center offers free pregnancy screening and counseling by lay counselors for any woman or man regardless of age, race, color, creed, or marital status. Other services include: education on fetal development and birth, education on adoption and abortion, and a Life Plan incentive program where baby furniture may be earned. Baby layettes and maternity clothes are supplied free of charge. Also available is individual/group counseling for those suffering remorse or regret from a past abortion experience. Referrals are made to medical, legal, psychological, adoption, or educational specialists.
The staff of Muskegon Pregnancy Services includes Executive Director Priscilla Hinze, Office Manager Phoebe Heise, and Counselor Coordinator Judy Spoelman. They are responsible for supervising, training, and managing a large group of volunteers and carrying out the policies set forth by the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is made up of non-salaried men and women who provide support, expertise, and direction. We receive additional help from community professionals who believe in our mission.
