Title
Welcome to the West Virginia Association of Museums
Description
is to: "serve, educate, advocate for, and enhance communications within the museum community." The Association carries out this mission by listening to its members and serving their interests and by keeping the members abreast of current standards and activities on a national scale.
The West Virginia Association of Museums was founded when the Southeastern Museums Conference (SEMC) met in Charleston, West Virginia in 1990. The local planning committee found that they could work together and had much in common. At that time, a decision was made to create a state association which would benefit the institutions, professionals, volunteers, and others interested in the museums of the Mountain State.
Conference participants who were present at the state luncheon of the SEMC voted to adopt a constitution and bylaws; forming an association which would meet for its first annual conference in Morgantown at the COMER Museum.
