Description
As an educational organization and a public trust, the Museum engages a diverse audience, engenders respect for others, and encourages lifelong learning.
The Museum of Design has been officially named an "affiliate" of the Washington-based Smithsonian Institution. The Museum joins a prestigious national program through which it will partner with the Smithsonian on an ongoing basis to bring unique collections to Atlanta.
Working alongside the Smithsonian curatorial staff, the Museum plans to bring collections to Atlanta from Smithsonian museums, such as the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. The Museum opened its first exhibit as an affiliate,"Treasures from the Smithsonian: A First Look", in October 2001.
