Description
Since its humble beginnings, the Mt. Washington Valley Paddling Club (MWVP) has become a source of training, education, and social activities for paddlers in the Mt Washington Valley. Founded in 1994 when Sandy Hall and Susie Laskin began offering rolling clinics in the Eastern Slope Inn pool, the club has grown to more than 70 individual and 14 family memberships. Current members include paddlers of all types, from open-boaters enjoying both flat and moving water, sea kayakers, white water kayakers and play boaters. Along with an active social calendar, MWVP continues to offer instruction to both members and other local paddlers. The club also sponsors a river safety training seminar, held locally one weekend a year, with instructors who have taught at Outward Bound, N. O. C. (Nantahala Outdoor Center, In North Carolina), and at other venues across the country. Many members of the club have a wealth of experience (with past expeditions to the Grand Canyon, Chile, the Western U.S. and Germany), and impromptu clinics happen wherever members are playing. Members regularly schedule organized trips to the region's rivers, including the Dead, Kennebec, and Penobscot Rivers in Maine, The West River in Vermont and The Jacques Cartier, near Quebec City. As a member of the American Canoe Association, MWVP annually sweeps a section of a local river, in conjunction with the ACA's National River Cleanup Week. Our purpose in presenting the Spring 2002 Whitewater Festival is to provide an opportunity to meet other paddlers and to enjoy paddling the rivers right here in the Mt. Washington Valley! Paddlers of all interests and abilities are welcome to join in the fun.
