Description

The Florida Metropolitan Planning Organization Advisory Council is a non-profit organization created by the Florida Legislature pursuant to Section 339.175(10), Florida Statutes, to augment the role of the individual MPO's in the cooperative transportation planning process. The MPOAC assists the MPOs in carrying out the urbanized area transportation planning process by serving as the principal forum for collective policy discussion.

The organization is made up of a Governing Board (26 members), an official representative from each MPO, and the Staff Directors (26 members), an official representative from each of the MPO Staffs. The MPOAC also includes a Legislation and Policy Subcommittee that annually prepares legislative policy positions and legislative initiatives to be advanced during Florida's Legislative Session by the MPOAC. The MPOAC actively participates on the Policy Board of the national Association of MPOs (AMPO) in Washington, D.C. and works with other AMPO members to help shape national policy regarding metropolitan transportation issues.

The MPOAC meets the fourth Thursday in January, April, July, and October in a central location. The MPOAC Legislation and Policy Subcommittee generally meet between the quarterly MPOAC meetings at a central location.
