Gemeente Moordrecht - Moordrecht digitaal
Description
Moordrecht is surrounded by pastures, waterways, lakes and rivers. For tourists there are numerous attractions, in addition to walking, cycling, canoeing, sailing and swimming. You will find a 9 hole golfcourse and a swimming pool nearby. Be sure to visit places such as Gouda, Oudewater and Schoonhoven. The flowerbulb fields, cheese making farms and many other museums are all worthy of a visit. Moordrecht is a picturesque place with a ferry crossing the river to Gouderak, the village opposite.
Old coins have been found, dating from the time of the Roman Empire. The first time Moordrecht is mentioned in documents is in April 1248, concerning payment for transporting goods by the river 'IJssel'. Around the 17th century the village flowered. Many small businesses like a bleachery, a ruskmill, a bakery and a ropery came to existence.
Moordrecht accomodates different businesses on the growing industrial estate 't Ambacht. The retail trade is concentrated on two streets: de Dorpsstraat and de Kerklaan. For more information call Mr. J. Bleijenberg, the contact person of the council for enterprises (tel 0182 346161)
