Product Information

Modular Kitchen Cabinet Styles Selecting the cabinet style you want can be overwhelming. The best way to start is by defining your style. Some questions to ask in selecting your cabinet style are: What kind of wood? What style door? What color finish? Keep in mind that your cabinet style should reflect the overall kitchen design and style of your home. In many instances it is actually an extension of the owner's personality. ModernView Designer's Series offers an assortment of wood species, door styles and finishes to suit your needs as well as to express your individuality.

Kitchen Cabinet Wood Species ModernView cabinets are available in Birch, Maple, Oak, Hickory, and Rustic Hickory. Thermofoil is also offered for white cabinets. Each wood species has specific traits and characteristics with which you should be familiar.

Kitchen Cabinet Stains and Colors ModernView cabinets have numerous color options. Ask your ModernView designer to see an actual color chip of the stain and wood species you are considering, as color printing and different settings on computer monitors can cause the hues to change somewhat from actual samples.

Kitchen Cabinet Hardware Complimentary hardware is available for your new ModernView kitchen. You may order your choice of hardware with your choice of cabinetry.

Kitchen Cabinet Accessories A place for everything and everything in its place. With the many organizational options available in ModernView, everything really does have its place. Some of the most unmanageable items now fit nicely into conveniently accessible spaces. You love your "junk drawer" - don't give it up. Just take control over it.

Planning Your Kitchen

Cabinets Base cabinets are generally 34-1/2 inches high, which when used with a 1-1/2 inch countertop means the countertop will be 36 inches from the floor. Base cabinets generally start at 9 inches wide, and progress up to 48 inches wide in 3 inch increments. There are many specialty base cabinets, but these also generally change width in 3 inch increments. Almost all base cabinets are 24 inches in depth. See your nearest ModernView dealer for availability of specific cabinets.

Wall cabinets also start at 9 inches wide, and progress up to 48 inches wide in 3 inch increments. But, there are many heights available in wall cabinets. The most popular heights in wall cabinets are 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 36, and 42 inches high. Which one to use depends on the design of your kitchen and how it is to be used (i.e., over a refrigerator or stove, etc). ModernView cabinetry offers a wide assortment of specialty wall cabinets which your designer can integrate into your particular design wishes or needs. While the majority of all wall cabinets are 12 inches in depth, some are available in 15 inch depths. Most wall cabinets are mounted at a height of 54 inches above the floor.

Tall Cabinets include such items as broom cabinets, utility cabinets, oven and oven-microwave cabinets. They are generally available in 84, 90, and 96 inch heights. ModernView tall cabinetry is available in a number of configurations in widths including 15, 18, 24, 30, and 36 inches.

Other Cabinets Universal cabinets, which are ADA compliant, a wide selection of vanities, medicine cabinets, moldings and accessories are all offered within the ModernView selection.

The Shape of Your Kitchen First, what is the shape of your kitchen? The most common layouts are:

• One wall, often called a galley kitchen

• Parallel walls, sometimes also called a galley kitchen.

• L - shaped

• U - shaped

Second, draw the outline of what will become your new kitchen. Draw this to scale, using graph paper if possible. A scale of ¼ or ½ inch = 1 foot is most commonly used. Use a tape measure for all dimensions. When your drawing is complete, it should look similar to the example below: This is an example of an L-shaped kitchen, where cabinets are to be placed on the upper and left walls in the drawing.

How to Measure for Kitchens

• Measure wall to wall, not baseboard to baseboard.

• Measure the distance from a corner to windows or doors. Include any molding around doors and windows as a part of the width of that item.

• Measure the distance from the floor to the bottom of the windows and the distance from the floor to the bottom of the window sill

• Measure the distance from floor to ceiling in several places.

• Accurately note the location of doors, windows, electrical switches and outlets and heating or air conditioning vents.

• If you have or plan to use soffits, measure and record the height and depth. Note any other obstacles which might prohibit or limit the placement of a cabinet.

• If you know where the sink, stove and or refrigerator is to be placed, note this on your drawing.

Appliances

Measure the width, depth, and height of any and all appliances. Record the manufacturer and model number. If you have these, questions about the product can sometimes be looked up online by your ModernView designer which will save you valuable time and additional trips. If you plan on purchasing new appliances, get the dimensions from the store or manufacturer. The sizes of these items must be figured into the layout of your new kitchen. You also need to measure the width of the doors leading into your house and to the kitchen to see if a larger appliance will fit into your home and through your doors.

Molding and Accents From Contemporary to Country, cabinetry, walls, doors or windows may be accented with our selection of moldings. Combine some of your creativity with our molding and accessories to produce a custom look that not only reflects your personality, but is affordable as well.

Accessories - Make Them Work for You

A wide selection of accessories from wine racks to cutlery dividers and vegetable bins to lazy susans is available for your consideration. With ModernView, you can create your own special space. Rather than stretching, bending and reaching for the items you need, ModernView cabinetry helps organize those items to create a truly pleasurable experience.

When you have completed the dimensions of your new kitchen, and listed out the information above, it is time to visit your ModernView dealer. It would be very helpful to have an actual list of accessories that you would like to have included in the design, as well as any accessories that you definitely do not want. If you have ideas about the flooring, lighting, wall covering, etc. that you would prefer, write those down on the information you submit to your ModernView designer.

Lighting How is the lighting in your existing kitchen? If it is not satisfactory, decide what additions you would like. Some ModernView dealers can assist you with lighting. Others may recommend a good lighting supplier in your area that they know to be of good reputation. If you have a light in the center of your kitchen, you might want to consider additional lights directly over your work area. This will give you the additional light you need when working in these areas, and may be turned off when not needed in order to conserve electricity.
