Title
Lakes and Plains Regional Council of Carpenters and Joiners
Description
The Lakes and Plains Regional Council of Carpenters and Joiners Carpenter locals were first chartered in Minneapolis in 1881and St. Paul in 1885. These organizations were created in response to a need for an organized carpenter workforce in this region. The Twin City Carpenters District Council was founded in August of 1915. The Council was formed to give strength to the smaller union locals throughout the Twin Cities.
Combining the individual locals for collective bargaining, the numbers of represented workers were larger, giving greater strength to help insure that wages benefits and working conditions are negotiated, not imposed, on the worker.
In 1921 the Lathers Local was chartered, the Pile Drivers, 1937 the Millwrights 1901 and in 1937 the Floor Coverers. Later these trades joined the council, building its strength and membership.
