Having completed a satisfying 24 year career as a fire fighter, and wanting a change of scenery, I moved, with my family, to Montrose in 1990. We had vacationed in this area several times and liked the size of the community, the friendliness of its residents and the obvious beautiful surroundings. We are lucky enough to live in an old farm house on Spring Creek Mesa, just six miles from downtown, with a little elbow space, and wonderful neighbors which include deer, pheasant and owls.
My wife, Jean, quickly found employment as a Home Health nurse and I quickly tired of being a "house husband". Being a house husband with an abundance of natural curiosity, and having no desire to watch soap operas, I was led to discover the many things to learn about our region. I considered several second career options but really wanted to use my people skills and knowledge of the area to benefit someone (other than Jean!!) I had always enjoyed home ownership (from "fixer uppers" to "turn-key"), landscaping, investment properties and had an interest in farm and ranch properties and recreational lands.
Real estate licensure seemed the obvious and I was licensed in the Spring of 1991. My first sale was my own home (one of the hazards of the occupation!!) and away I went. Almost immediately I became involved in local Real Estate politics. I had a complaint and felt that hopping on board to see what might be done to improve things was a better alternative to the usual routine of bellyaching to any and everyone who would listen.
