Description
On February 4, 2006 more than 100 peace activists representing over 40 peace & justice organizations from around the state of Michigan met in Ann Arbor to form a network dedicated to coordinate peace efforts. The Michigan Peace Network was born from that meeting. We discussed strategies for ending the war in Iraq and furthering statewide collaboration between the exsisting organizations. The communities represented included, Albion, Battle Creek, Ann Arbor, Detroit, Traverse City, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint, Holland and the Muskegon area. A nine-person governing body was formed, dedicated to increasing the effectiveness of individual groups to bring an end to the Iraq War, support youth activism, promote counter recruitment, and to bring home the Michigan National Guard.
