Newberry - Studio Updates
Description
Light and the realization of the best within guide Newberry’s art. The brilliance of the French Impressionists inspired him “to go back to nature” and to see the colors of the world around him afresh, while the epic nature of such works as Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People and Rembrandt’s Danae have foreshadowed his visions of the individual spirit exalted. His drawings, oil sketches, and large canvases are each uniquely composed conveying the freshness of the moment and often have an art historical twist—and always with a sense of beauty in nature and humanity. His work pays homage to masters of the past, yet explores new possibilities of color and vibrant content.
at age 11 Michael Newberry falls in love with Rembrandt, begins painting, and never looks back. At 17, he starts selling his paintings and drawings.
Michael studies under modernist Edgar Ewing, moves to Europe, lays aside postmodernism, studies painting as a universal whole, and takes neighborhood jaunts to the Mauritshuis Museum to see how Vermeer and Rembrandt did it. Picasso, Michelangelo also serve as influences.
