About Mega-Catch™
Envirosafe Technologies N.Z. Ltd, manufacturers of Mega-Catch™ mosquito traps, is 100% New Zealand owned and operated. Based out of Auckland, the company distributes and sells it products through its on-line store to over 40 countries around the globe, including the United States, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Italy, and Argentina.
Mega-Catch™ mosquito traps were first introduced into the U.S. in early 2000. A wide variety of mosquito traps are available there, where emerging fatal mosquito-borne diseases stimulate the market for such devices. When mosquitoes started making headlines, the public was bombarded with health advisories and mosquito control became the latest buzz word. Combined with on-going anti-pesticide sentiment, the number of companies manufacturing mosquito traps increased dramatically. All this led to a need for evaluating the effectiveness of these traps.
In 2003, the Public Health Entomology Research & Education Center (PHEREC) of Florida A&M University conducted a comparision of mosquito species and numbers caught in 8 commercial mosquito traps. The Mega-Catch™ Ultra Mosquito Trap was the clear leader.

How Mega-Catch™ Mosquito Traps Work
Combining advanced design features that exploit the sensory signals mosquitoes use to find their prey e.g. light, color, heat, movement, & odor; and sophisticated electronic componentry, Mega-Catch™ traps attract mosquitoes without relying on propane combustion – a potential fire hazard. Mega-Catch™ mosquito traps are environmentally friendly, yet safe and simple to use. They come fully assembled; simply position, connect to power, switch on and let it go to work.
Basic Mosquito Control Tips
Mega-Catch™ mosquito traps should be used in conjunction with other sensible control measures designed to manage mosquito problems.
- Get rid of mosquito breeding sites around the home. These include old tires, bird baths, buckets, pot plant bases, tin cans and plastic containers, water gardens and decorative ponds (without fish), and even hollow plant stems & flowers like bromeliads. Anything that holds water is a potential mosquito nursery!
- Keep grass mown, bushes trimmed and debris out of the gutters.
- Eliminate standing water in low spots, ditches and other areas.
- Light colored clothing is less attractive to some mosquito species. Wearing long sleeves and long pants during the hours when mosquitoes are active will give added defense.
- Use screens and netting to provide mosquito free zones inside the home.
- Use insect repellants. Deet has long been considered the most effective mosquito repellant on the market.
