Description
First, please understand that the workshops that Jim gives using the African djembe or ashiko as well as the Australian didgeridoo, are not to try to show who Jim is but to act as a catalyst for the participants to find who THEY are and to love what they find. The primordial and basic sounds of the drum and drone of the didgeridoo are used to open up a channel of acceptance to each person's innate worth and beauty.
An overt attempt is not made to have this happen but the participant always remains in charge as the subtle changes take place, perhaps more in the subconscious area than the conscious. It is Jim's opinion that these "magic" sounds fan the flame of the soul and bring out the self love of it that is too often repressed or ignored. The "spiritual" aspects of the workshop are left to Spirit while the actual drumming is a function of "just letting go."
Jim does most of his workshops free and has many times traveled hundreds of miles to do them, as well as furnishing the drums. He likes to do this without charge as a gift to those who participate, knowing that the gift is not really his until it is given. Then, it is returned a hundredfold as he has actually given it to himself, loving the concept of Oneness of All. He gives free private drum and didgeridoo lessons. He also feels that if he judges others, he is only judging himself. He has been known to accept recompense for travel expenses but does not like the concept of "love offerings" because his desire is for the receiver to love themselves enough to be able to receive a gift. This has been very difficult for most and was at one time for Jim. Private lessons are free as well.
