Committee
MCU is not a church! It is simply a bunch of Christians who attend lots of churches all over Perth getting together on campus at Murdoch while we study here. MCU is co-ordinated by a student-elected Committee of fellow MCU students. Elections are held each year in Semester 2. The people who serve on the Committee oversee various aspects of what we do. We have a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary as well as General Members.
President - Brian
Brian is the Murdoch Christian Union President. While he is not changing the clutch in his dodgy Russian built 4WD in Carpark 7 or changing the rear axels on one of his several Frankenstein-like vehicles in his backyard or pondering Keynesian economic theory on the collective conscious of the Australian working class, you will find Brian scurrying about making sure MCU stays on track as we hold out the Word of Truth. At committee meetings he is regularly seen (and heard) clapping his hands together to bring the meeting back on track as it drifts off into silly comments about trolleys and donkeys (how about ‘Tronkeys’!). Brian knows that one of John Maynard Keynes (1883–1946) most famous quotes is: “In the long run we are all dead.” (Collected Writings, ‘A Tract on Monetary Reform’), so this is why he gives himself wholeheartedly to making Jesus known on campus at Murdoch. He studies Arts/Politics, is in “2nd and a half” year (he’s such an arts student!) and he attends ‘Uni Church’ at UWA.
Vice-President and Treasurer - Peggy
Seeing as the primary task of the Vice-President is to wait around and see if anything happens to the President, Peggy is ready to ‘step up’ as the Prez if Brian gets hit by a bus (or a Murdoch Mail Van or a Logistics cart), or indeed by one of his own vehicles while he is under it! Until that happens, Peggy keeps herself occupied as the MCU Treasurer. Peggy is the number cruncher of MCU. Her job is to launder money through her international contacts and make it appear that the only money we really have comes from a couple of MCU BBQ's and membership fees. Her task is to keep the ‘ledger’ – pardon the pun! Ledger by name, legend by nature!
