Established in 1992, Mauritius Telecom is the public telecommunications operator of Mauritius. Together with its subsidiary companies forming the MT Group, the company offers fixed and wireless telephony services, data and value-added services, international communications, mobile cellular services, Internet services, Directory and Call Centre services.

Along the years, the Group has developed rapidly into one of the leading enterprises of Mauritius with a turnover of some 5.4 billion Mauritian rupees for the financial year ending December 2004. Today, Mauritius Telecom operates a fully digital network with over 359,000 telephone lines, which equate to a teledensity of 30 line per 100 habitants. The MT Group is also actively present in the operations of mobile telecommunications in Burundi and Madagascar .

In 2000, Mauritius Telecom entered into a strategic partnership agreement with France Télécom thus, enabling the company to strengthen and secure its market share and, at the same time, to derive the maximum benefit from the knowledge and experience of the regional market through the contacts and technical expertise of its partner.
