- Over a year ago I had a dream of starting my own magazine. Making a business plan in September and October of 2005 was something I had never done before. Creating that plan was challenging and rewarding. But as we all know, nothing ever goes as planned. Getting turned down or put on hold by the Charlotte Observer was disappointing. “Wait six to nine months and then maybe we'll start a magazine in the Matthews–Mint Hill area,” is what they said. They had their reasons. They had recently been bought out by one of the biggest newspaper companies in the country and were in a holding pattern for any new magazines. Maybe they should have taken a gamble. I did.
