Marlwood School :: Home
Description
We aim to provide a rich and varied educational experience through which all pupils can achieve their best, supported by a well-qualified and dedicated team of staff, working in partnership with parents. We enjoy and celebrate the success of all our pupils in whatever area and hope that their time at the school equips them to move on with confidence to the next stage of their lives.
Marlwood School was formed in September 1972 when the staff and pupils of Thornbury Grammar School transferred to the present purpose-built premises in Alveston. From that time the school has taken a full comprehensive intake each year and now has almost 1400 pupils on roll, including 250 in the Sixth Form. Although a large school it is not too large for pupils to be known individually by staff.
The school was founded in 1606 and developed and maintained a strong tradition as a co-educational grammar school. It is the aim of Marlwood to maintain this heritage and to enhance its traditions and widen horizons even further. A Founders’ Day Service is still held annually for Year 7 and 13. 2006 marks our four hundredth anniversary and a programme of events and activities is planned to celebrate.
