- As cruisers committed to energy independence aboard our Beneteau 461 "Force Majeure", we became frustrated with the poor quality and high-prices of LED lighting products that are being sold for marine use. As a distributor of automotive lighting products in a previous life, I understood the technical challenges and energy benefits of marine lighting, and began a quest to develop a product line specifically for my fellow cruisers who live in a world of deep-cycle batteries, solar panels and wind generators. As I began doing market research, it became very clear that most of the vendors selling LED products for marine use know very little about LED lighting, and are in most cases selling auto store ballast-resitor controlled LED products not suitable for marine use. Worse yet, they are passing along their ignorance to unsuspecting customers, who are left high and dry with failing LED's, low output, and cold, clammy light. Our little business has become as much about educating the marketplace as it is about selling product, and we are happy to help.
